- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pound ground sausage
- 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan Cheese
- 1 tsp ground oregano
- 1 tsp dried sweet basil, crushed with fingers or ground
- 1 tsp garlic salt
- 1/2 tsp white pepper
- 1 egg
- juice from 1 lemon
- 1/2 cup Italian style breadcrumbs
- 1 can @ 15.50oz Hunts Manwich Original Sloppy Joe Sauce
- 1 can @ 15oz Red Gold Tomato Sauce
- 1 can @ 10oz RoTel Mild Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies, drained
- 1 red onion, diced
- 6 sub or hoagie buns
- 12 slices of sliced Provolone/Mozzarella cheese
In a large bowl combine the beef, sausage, cheese, oregano, sweet basil, garlic salt, white pepper, egg, lemon juice and breadcrumbs, mix well with your hands until all ingredients are combined well. Line the bottom of your broiling pan with foil and spray the top with Pam Spray. Roll the meat mixture into golf ball size meatballs and place on the broiling pan. Broil on low for 12 minutes, turn the meatballs over and broil for 5-7 minutes more until browned on both sides.
In a Crockpot combine the Manwich Sloppy Joe Sauce, Tomato Sauce and the diced tomatoes. Add the broiled meatballs and gently stir to mix and coat the meatballs without breaking them. Slow cook in your Crockpot on low for 3 hours.
Line a cookie sheet with foil. (this is for easy cleanup) Open the sub or hoagie bun, spread a small amount of the sauce from the crockpot over both sides of the open bun, place 4 slow cooked meatballs on the bottom of the bun, sprinkle red onions on the top portion, then lay 2 slices of the cheese overlapping the top and bottom parts of the bun. The cheese should be laying over the onions and the meatballs. Place in the oven and broil on low for a couple of minutes just until the cheese melts. Remove, turn the top of the bun onto the bottom…and there you have an easy, wonderfully tasty Sloppy Joe Meatball Sandwich.
